When did you get involved with this organization?
In 2000 I retired from John Muir Hospital. I had a lot of time on my hands. Volunteering was on my "To Do" list. As I started investigating the different organizations I was amazed at the hundreds and hundreds of organization that needed help. I was overwhelmed. I did not want to start to volunteer and find out I was not a good fit. A few months later a woman in my Bible Study group was talking about an organization that she was involved in. The organization is named VESTIA. After asking a few question I wanted to know more.

Dedicated to VESTIA’s Mission Since 1992
Joining VESTIA Inc, in 1992 gave me the opportunity to serve individuals in need throughout
Contra Costa County. I was drawn to VESTIA’s ability as a 501c3 non-profit organization to
provide additional goods and services requested by social workers beyond those required by
law. My volunteer work included shopping for gifts, clothing, and other essential items for
children and families in need. I especially remember locating a requested clarinet so that a
musically talented young student could play in a school band. As a Board, we also began
developing financial resources and volunteer programs for holiday gifts for children in need.
It was an exciting time to pioneer a unique program allowing Contra Costa’s Employment
